VORTEX – An Intelligent Painting Color Mixer
The Third Prize, Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2017
Design Concept:
With the trends of DIY and the rise in popularity of 3D printing, model making is becoming more popular and people are interested in this topic. Apart from shaping and forming, coloring is also important part of the entire procedure of modeling and prototyping. In such, the modeling color paints are relatively costly consumptions. Makers often use a lot of money to purchase paints but most colors are rarely used, especially in auxiliary colors used as compliments. For advanced makers, they could mix unique color paint by themselves, for personal use. As they mix by hand, remaking exactly color could be hard to achieve because of human error. Moreover, remaining colors with no application are often wasted. In order to reduce the cost of coloring and waste, an intelligent paint color mixer was developed.
Working Model:
Model programmed via Arduino
Functional App developed via MIT App Inventor
